Summer 2024 Trends and How Best To Use Them

Interior design trends come and go in the blink of an eye. Yet why is this happening? Social media, advertising, and fast product production have made accessing and implementing new trends more available. However, this can sometimes lead to falling victim to the bandwagon effect and designing for the sake of likes rather than your personal taste. The good news is there are ways to avoid this design trap.

Where To Apply Trends

Incorporating trends into small, easily replaceable decor is a sustainable way to embrace the trend without getting stuck. Try applying trends in these areas:

textiles

art

accessories

Where Not To Apply Trends

It's best not to apply trends to items that are more difficult to change. These items require costly professional services to be replaced, and surrounding fixtures could be damaged. Avoid applying trends in these areas:

countertops

flooring

tile

Summer Decor Trends of 2024

1. Bookshelves Are The New Gallery Walls

I'm seeing this all over social media, and it is officially on the books for this Summer's Trends: styled bookshelves! We want to add personality and sentimentality to our living spaces, even feeling inspired to romanticize our lives. The trend is to create styled bookshelves with a warm and welcoming feel. To achieve this look, collect your favorite books and layer them with personal memorabilia like small frames with photographs or art, sculptures, gathered rocks or crystals, and bud vases to curate a display uniquely you. Add plants to your shelves to give your bookshelf some life and vitality.

“To create styled bookshelves with a warm and welcoming feel, continue collecting books you love over time and layer them with personal memorabilia, art, sculptures, and bud vases to curate a display [that’s] uniquely you,”

2. Bringing Back The Classic 1990's

The allure of the 1990s nostalgia will resurface in the world of interior design, this time with a contemporary twist. Ralph Lauren's announcement of the relaunch of Ralph Lauren Home has us, once again, revisiting the aesthetic of comfort, prep, and bold expression, making it the perfect choice for homes that may need a touch of nostalgia. Bring this trend to your home by incorporating classic geometric patterns, primary colors, and preppy statements in bedding that resonate with your unique style. Mix your timeless modern furnishings with vintage frames, and add luxurious elements like crystal barware and polished silver or brass serve ware to elevate the vibrant 1990s vibe into a sophisticated ambiance.

3. The New Western Charm

From what I see, I'm predicting a modified revival of the Western aesthetic, where rustic charm meets modern sophistication. Combining distressed leather and denim textiles with contemporary pieces creates a luxurious yet warm atmosphere. This trend celebrates the timeless legacy of the Western lifestyle while introducing a fresh perspective by blending it with modern design sensibilities so as not to over-theme a space. Embrace the rustic refinement of the Western aesthetic with this trend that effortlessly combines the worn with the new. Mix leather accessories with timeless contemporary pieces. Feature natural materials such as wood and stone in art or sculptures to add depth and texture and Western motifs in art, pillows, and throws.

4. Anyone Can Cook

Balancing function and form in the Kitchen is essential and is gaining popularity among interior designers and clients as it allows them to incorporate a passion, need, and accessibility for home cooking. This sensible trend is about infusing the culinary arts' creativity, liveliness, and aesthetics into their residential designs. Open shelving adorned with aesthetically pleasing containers, tools, serveware, cookbooks, hyper-organized pantries, and refrigerators are great ways to bring this trend to your cooking space. Try it out and experience the joy of cooking in a stylish but immersive environment!

5. Handcrafted Macrame & Crochets

This Summer, handcrafted macrame and crochet will be at the top of your decor list. Incorporating these handcrafted textiles into your home reflects your desire to infuse it with character and a sense of calm. These precious and dreamy handmade pieces are an artisanal touch to any room, adding warmth and texture. Find your unique piece in the form of a wall hanging, throw, coaster, or tablecloth as a way to spotlight subtle patterns of artesian flair and be a focal point for conversation.
